History

Machiko was born in Tokyo and moved when she was young due to her father being transferred. Her father, Atsushi, is a company middleman who is stuck at his current job level and does not seem likely to advance. Her mother Maiko was raised very traditionally and tries to raise Machiko the same, without much success. Machi's family has to struggle a bit in order to send Machiko to Yamamoto Junior High, but they manage. Her parents consider education very important and are worried about Machi's grades, thus they choose to send her to a school with a good reputation and cut back on some of their expenses.

Personality

Machi is a very energetic and cheerful person. She's gregarious and outspoken, loves new fashions, and excels at sports and athletics. When it comes to schoolwork, Machi is more than a little lazy. She does her homework under her mother's watchful eye, but prefers to spend time out shopping with Yuki or ice skating at the local rink, so she doesn't spend a lot of time on her work. She also enjoys swimming, skiing, baseball, and volleyball. Machi loves trying out new things, and is more than a little disappointed that her family usually doesn't have the money to get new things, but she understands the sacrifices her parents make for her.

Yuki and Machi are complimentary best friends. Machi's energy and enthusiasm balances out well with Yuki's cautiousness and traditionalist views.
