Well, I'm very pleased by how many brave souls attempted Psychic
Trivia. It wasn't easy to read me mind, now, was it? Makes you wonder just what
sort of evil twists and turns I have planned for the future, eh? Bwahahahaaaa--
*choke, cough, hack* Erm, anyway, first I shall reveal how many people chose
each answer and the correct answers to a few of the questions. (Not all of them,
though, since I refuse to give away too much info on future plotlines...) Also
included: bonus random commentary from yours truly on each of the answer
selections!
Likeliness is how likely the answer was in my opinion on a scale
of one to ten, ten being the correct answer and one being the least likely
answer. Zero means somewhere on the site it said otherwise.
1. Marcus is:
-
Feodor's brother - 9%
Likeliness: 0. It says on Feodor's profile that he is his parent's only
son.
-
Magnus's brother - 34%
Likeliness: 8. We know Magnus's mother is dead. We don't know whether or
not she had other children. The names are similar...
-
Orriole's son - 13%
Likeliness: 8. It's quite possible for Orriole to have kids. Nobody ever
said he didn't.
-
Vashti's son - 6%
Likeliness: 4. While she could have kids, she's not exactly the mother
type... and why would Vashti, a Hebrew, name her son Marcus?
-
Hirschel's son - 6%
Likeliness: 1. The poor bastard's never had a girlfriend, much less...
finish that yourself!
-
Vashti's brother - 9%
Likeliness: 3. It's even less likely that Vashti would have a brother
with a Roman name...
-
Kiprilla's brother - 6%
Likeliness: 1. Given that there's no info on Kip up yet, this could've had a
high likeliness, however, Kiprilla is an only child.
-
Orriole's grandson - 16%
Likeliness: 5. Possible.
2. Silvia is:
-
Feodor's sister - 22%
Likeliness: 1. It is mentioned on Fey's profile that he has a sister, but
her name is Marisha, not Silvia.
-
Magnus's sister - 3%
Likeliness: 7. Same reasoning as before.
-
Orriole's daughter - 19%
Likeliness: 9. Same reasoning as above, plus the added fact that there is a
"mystery girl" with Orriole in the Mother's Day picture who has
features similar to Orriole and is hanging off his arm. (Incidentally,
that's me hanging off Orriole's other arm.) Of course, that could always be
Orriole's mother...
-
Vashti's daughter - 9%
Likeliness: 4. See above.
-
Hirschel's daughter - 9%
Likeliness: 1. See above.
-
Vashti's sister - 13%
Likeliness: 5. Slightly less likely just because I think if Vashti'd had a
sister, she would have turned out a nicer person...
-
Kiprilla's sister - 16%
Likeliness: 1. See above.
-
Orriole's granddaughter - 9%
Likeliness - 6. Same reasoning, plus mystery girl factor.
3. Mieselah and Meiselah are:
-
humans - 3%
Likeliness: 3. Possible, technically, but with those names?
-
elves - 6%
Likeliness: 6. More likely that these names belong to elves, but still.
-
fairies - 13%
Likeliness: 7. Mieselah and Meiselah are names I took from a tooth fairy
tradition passed down on my mother's side of the family and supposedly
Russian in origin. Fairies don't usually come in naming pairs like this,
though. (In TBE, at least.)
-
ethereal spirits - 31%
Likeliness: 5. I don't know why so many people went with this... I mean,
sheesh, spirits named Mieselah and Meiselah?
- talking mice - 34%
Likeliness. 7. Going back to that "tooth fairy tradition,"
Mieselah and Meiselah were supposed mice. Nobody ever said they talked,
though...
- demons - 6%
Likeliness: 4. Those'd be pretty crappy demonic names. Plus, if I were
going to use demons in the comic, I probably would've named them Baal or
Mephistopheles or some other established demon thing like that.
- dragons - 6%
Likeliness: 6. Could very well be.
- magic fish - 0%
Likeliness: 6. As likely as the names belonging to dragons...
4. Du Maorong is:
- Queen of the Elves - 6%
Likeliness: 7. Could be.
- the oldest living elf - 16%
Likeliness: 3. The oldest living elf happens to be a member of the Elven
Council, so Mao couldn't be this and not be in the Council... And she's
really not that terribly old, anyway.
- an Elder of the Elven Council - 28%
Likeliness: 8. Pretty likely, though not true. She was actually offered
a position once and declined.
- a priestess among elves - 19%
Likeliness: 8. She does sound like a priestess, I suppose.
- a Dragonmaster - 13%
Likeliness: 7. Chinese name and Chinese dragons, perhaps?
- an evil elf trying to take over the world - 3%
Likeliness: 3. Could be, but isn't.
- the undisputed sex queen of the elven world - 3%
Likeliness: 10. I knew most people wouldn't believe it, but it's true.
You know that whole shakri'pah thing?
- the most powerful elf alive - 13%
Likeliness: 3. Again, possible, but the most powerful living elf is
another cast member I'm sure you could guess if you picked up the clues in
his/her profile... And took into account my horrid sense of humor...
5. The source of magic is:
- Mount Olympus - 0%
Likeliness: 1. I guess you guys all picked up on pretty quickly. Mount
Olympus is simply a big mountain in the elven countryside where some really
powerful elves used to live, most of whom are now deceased.
- the Sun - 0%
Likeliness: 2. It's a major source of energy, sure, but magic?
- the Tree of Life - 19%
Likeliness: 4. While it is a known fact that magic does not come from
the tree, it's easy to see how some of you thought it might. Magic existed
before the tree was planted.
- unknown - 13%
Likeliness: 10. This is the correct answer. Yep, the correct answer is
that the source of magic is unknown, at least by the elves of today.
- the Spring of Etherwell - 6%
Likeliness: 3. The Spring of Etherwell is, as its name may resemble, a
healing spring.
- God(s) - 0%
Likeliness: 6. Believe it or not, this is what a lot of elves think.
Surprisingly, none of you do.
- the soul - 13%
Likeliness: 9. A strong possibility, but it's hard to say, since there's
still some debate over whether or not the soul exists or what it is...
- the elemental forces (Nature) - 50%
Likeliness: 8. Most people thought this to be the answer, and indeed, it
seem logical, but it's unproven and there is some evidence that this idea
may not be correct.
6. Orriole’s favorite sound is:
- a woman’s voice - 0%
Likeliness: 2. Women's voices tend to have some rather unpleasant
extremes, such as the classic high-pitched scream.
- the lyre - 13%
Likeliness: 8. Orriole actually loves the lyre dearly.
- wind in the trees - 31%
Likeliness: 10. Perhaps yet another reason why Orriole enjoys Feodor's
company so much.
- the flute - 9%
Likeliness: 6. It's a nice instrument, but can be a bit grating on the
ears.
- rain - 19%
Likeliness: 6. Personally, I love the sound of rain, but Orriole
doesn't.
- silence - 19%
Likeliness: 1. It's a sorry musician who prefers the sound of silence.
- birds singing - 3%
Likeliness: 6. They sound so energetic and happy...
- waves on the shore - 6%
Likeliness: 7. A nice sound.
7. Fairies come from:
- flowers - 13%
Likeliness: 10. This is the correct answer.
- stones - 0%
Likeliness: 1. I'm sure they could, I just can't think how...
- sexual reproduction - 6%
Likeliness: 2. Fairies don't have any of the necessary parts, so how
would this work?
- elven magic - 6%
Likeliness: 8. Elves can fix things, generate bursts of energy, and do
all kinds of parlor tricks, so why not magic up some fairies?
- the elements - 25%
Likeliness: 6. Again, how would this work? Fairies just spawn randomly?
- asexual reproduction - 9%
Likeliness: 2. Hrm, I can just picture a fairy budding like a yeast cell
right now... Or cloning itself... a million Talias running around! Ahhhh!!!
- elven dreams - 34%
Likeliness: 4. If the things we dreamed became real, I'd be scared to
think what monsters would roam this world...
- nowhere; there’s a set number - 6%
Likeliness: 1. You'll note the fairies' profiles all have ages listed.
If they didn't come from anywhere, wouldn't they be immortal and
ageless?
8. To get a fairy of his or her own, an elf must do a ritual which includes:
- casting a spell - 9%
Likeliness: 8. Again, elves can do a whole lot of parlor tricks.
- shaving his or her hair - 6%
Likeliness: 10. Yet another answer I knew few people would believe. It
is traditional for an elf to make an offering by shaving his of her hand off
before receiving a fairy. (Hair is used because it's something from the body
that's replaceable.)
- fasting - 3%
Likeliness: 7. Given that we're talking rituals here, fasting could be a
part of such a process.
- visiting the fairy forest - 13%
Likeliness: 8. Sounds viable, yes? I suppose a fairy forest is where all
the fairies live, and the elf walks down and asks for one to join him or
her, and the little fairy goes, "yes!' and... Oops, sorry. There is a
flaw here, though. In Ask an Elf it's mentioned that fairies and elves need
each other, so a colony of fairies all by themselves doesn't work...
- appealing to the Council - 3%
Likeliness: 5. Though if the Council had any control over it, Feodor
would never have gotten a fairy.
- sleeping under the Tree of Life - 38%
Likeliness: 4. Given that most of you thought fairies came from dreams,
I understand how this answer is so popular. But like I said before, things
manifesting from dreams would cause a lot of problems besides just annoying
twits named Talia...
- finding magic stones - 9%
Likeliness: 5. I guess fairies could come from stones if and elf had to
find them and change them somehow or something...
- planting a flower - 19%
Likeliness: 7. If you follow the whole flower line of reasoning, this
makes sense.
9. When fairies die, they become:
- dust - 16%
Likeliness: 7. Could be. Like vampires, right? (Except vampires don't
really turn into ashes at the sun's light.)
- corpses - 0%
Likeliness: 8. Oh, come on, isn't that what most dead things become?
- stones - 0%
Likeliness: 10. Nobody thought this was the answer? I guess it's 'cause
nobody thought fairies came from stones... not even me.
- seeds - 44%
Likeliness: 4. Okay, let me get this straight -- fairies come from
dreams, you get them by sleeping under the tree of Life, and then they turn
into seeds?? Geez, if you've gonna pick something, make it consistent! If
fairies turned into seeds, then wouldn't it go to reason that you get a
fairy by planting a flower and fairies come from flowers? Oh, I give up.
- nothingness - 28%
Likeliness: 7. All good except the whole energy cannot be created nor
destroyed thing.
- ghosts - 0%
Likeliness: 5. I guess they could be ghosts, but that'd be their
spirits, not their physical beings...
- angels - 6%
Likeliness: 6. A bit more likely than ghosts is you go for the whole
happy ending thing.
- they can’t die - 6%
Likeliness: 3. That'd cause a huge fairy overpopulation problem.
10. Half-elves:
- live half as long as full elves - 19%
Likeliness: 6. Half and half, right? Interesting, but I think not.
- cannot reproduce - 22%
Likeliness: 10. Much like what happens when you combine a horse and a
donkey. There are supposedly rare exceptions, but none actually documented.
Humans and elves do not often reproduce in any event. Cum mula peperit!
- cannot use magic - 19%
Likeliness: 4. Pity the creature with elven characteristics who is
unable to use magic.
- live as long as humans - 28%
Likeliness: 4. Yeah, I see how this could be, but elves live for such a
long time it's hard to imagine that something like that wouldn't rub off on
their offspring at least a little bit...
- are all male - 3%
Likeliness: 3. Biologically, I don't know how this would work, but I
won't say it's impossible.
- are impossible - 0%
Likeliness: 4. Nope, it happens.
- are ugly, misshapen beings - 6%
Likeliness: 4. Um, could be.
- are all female - 0%
Likeliness: 3. See above.
11. The world the elves live in is called:
- Tir Na Nog - 19%
Likeliness: 4. Though it has mythic origins, it is now irreversibly
linked to that crappalicious Fox show, Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog. For
those of you who aren't familiar with it, it was basically an Arthurian
myth-induced Power Rangers.
- Phyrexia - 3%
Likeliness: 1. This is the name of a land from Magic: the Gathering. You
know, the better, original card game from the people who brought you the
Pokemon game?
- Euphoria - 6%
Likeliness: 4. It's an actual word.
- Taer Minaal - 28%
Likeliness: 7. It's no, though. Taer Minaal, Terminal. Neat, huh?
- Elysia - 16%
Likeliness: 7. The Elysian Fields are where all the happy dead Romans
and Greeks go...
- Imaim - 0%
Likeliness: 3. Turn it around, and what do you get? Miami.
- Eden - 0%
Likeliness: 7. I'm surprised no one picked this one, actually. I think
it's pretty likely.
- it has no true name - 28%
Likeliness: 10. Everyone calls it something different. Most elves
eventually just gave up and call it "over there." I'm not kidding,
really.
12. Feodor has pursued all of the following careers except:
- artist - 3%
Likeliness: 10. The guy is many things, but artist is not one of them.
- stuntman - 25%
Likeliness: 2. It is so very in Fey's personality to pursue this kind of
job. He did a lot of stunt work in the seventies and eighties.
- cobbler - 9%
Likeliness: 6. Not many people are cobblers. Feodor happens to fall into
the other group who are.
- soldier - 16%
Likeliness: 1. It's actually mentioned in his profile that he "proudly
claims to be a veteran of most every major conflict of the past 200
years."
- woodcutter - 9%
Likeliness: 5. Fey's a strong guy, though I can't explain why chopping
wood is so appealing to him...
- tailor - 3%
Likeliness: 4. He's definitely a tailor. All the clothes you'll see
Orriole in were either made or modified by Feodor, with the exception of the
school uniform.
- innkeeper - 16%
Likeliness: 6. I can see how people would think this, but the truth is
he did own an inn once.
- restaurateur - 16%
Likeliness: 4. Believe it or not, Feodor is an excellent cook. He loves
food. He ran the restaurant/tavern out of his inn.
13. Magnus:
- contracts a deadly disease - 0%
Likeliness: 7. A possibility.
- is killed in battle - 9%
Likeliness: 7. He gets into enough fights and is rather inexperienced,
so it could happen.
- kills his mother’s killer - 16%
Likeliness: 8. Hey, that is what he wants to do, remember?
- falls in love - 13%
Likeliness: 8. Doesn't everyone at some point in time? I hope so, at
least.
- forgives his mother’s killer - 3%
Likeliness: 2. I don't think Magnus would ever do that.
- discovers his mother is not dead - 28%
Likeliness: 3. No, she's definitely dead...
- takes up smoking - 6%
Likeliness: 5. Gee, where do I get this stuff from?
- leads a revolt against the Elven Council - 25%
Likeliness: 6. He might try, crazy little twerp, but surely nobody
thinks such an attempt would succeed?
14. Hirschel is going to:
- be killed - 13%
Likeliness: 7. He is a Hunter, after all, and that's a job with a high
mortality rate.
- fall in love and marry - 6%
Likeliness: 3. This goes back to the whole girlfriend bit. Though I'm
sure some fans would love to rectify this situation. :)
- kill a major character - 31%
Likeliness: 7. He could have all sorts of motives for this.
- become Feodor’s friend - 16%
Likeliness: 2. Somehow, no matter how optimistic I am, I don't see
Hirschel ever befriending the guy who ripped out his eye... Even if that
hadn't happened, I still don't think these two would ever get along.
- lose his other eye (ouch!) - 6%
Likeliness: 3. Come on, just how cruel do you think I am? Wait -- don't
answer that!
- try to take over the elven world - 6%
Likeliness: 2. Hirschel's such a loner, and I'm sure he doesn't think he
could defeat the rest of the elven world by himself...
- lose Edwina - 13%
Likeliness: 7. I'm not cruel enough to rip out his other eye, but I am
cruel enough to take away his Edwina.
- become a vegetarian - 9%
Likeliness: 1. A vegetarian vampire?? How on the world would he live???
(Last I checked, vegetarians didn't drink blood.)
15. Machiko is destined to be:
- the only human to die - 9%
Likeliness: 6. That'd be pretty mean, so I wouldn't put it past myself.
- Yuki’s biggest rival - 25%
Likeliness: 3. Best friends to biggest rivals? That's a 360 I just don't
picture happening.
- kidnapped - 13%
Likeliness: 5. While there's a chance anyone can be kidnapped, it'd be a
pretty crummy destiny.
- married - 9%
Likeliness: 10. Most people get married; Machiko is no exception.
- the key to saving the planet - 13%
Likeliness: 3. Humans don't get that lucky.
- eternally cheerful and happy - 9%
Likeliness: 1. I've got to admire that kind of optimism from
respondents, but nobody gets off this easily in the puzzle that is life.
- able to use magic - 13%
Likeliness: 3. See "the key to saving the planet."
- a professional athlete - 6%
Likeliness: 6. She's athletic, but lacks that kind of drive and
dedication.

Since there was a massive third-place tie, I nixed the fourth
prize. I mean, I can't very well give out eight prizes! I don't have that much
money! ;_; Anyway, thanks everyone for entering! I loved reading all the
comments (there were some strange ones in there!) and seeing where you thought
the comic might end up. I look forward to surprising everyone with the correct
answers (for the ones I didn't give an answer to, anyway).
